PowerSchool Data Breach
Dedham Public Schools, along with many other school districts across the country, were notified at the beginning of January 2025 about a cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, our student information system, which is used to manage student records, grades, attendance, enrollment, and more.
PowerSchool has informed us that the incident involved unauthorized access to their data systems nationwide. PowerSchool has assured its customers, including Dedham, that the incident has been contained and there is no evidence of continued unauthorized activity.

How do I find out more about this security incident?
PowerSchool has created this “Frequently Asked Questions” | FAQ page. PowerSchool is handling all items related to Identity Protection and Credit Monitoring Services and reportedly will reach out in email about this. We don’t believe you have to wait to be contacted. The “Notice of Data Breach” link has information about two years of complimentary identity protection services that are available including links, codes and a contact phone number. This offer is available until May 30, 2025.
How long does it take to set up the free Identity Protection and Credit Monitoring Services with Experian IdentityWorks?
- It takes approximately 30 minutes through the call in service and likely less time if you do this online.
- Please note that Experian IdentityWorks (normally paid service) is a separate login from the free Experian Credit Monitoring site used to freeze credit requests.
I am and/or was a Dedham Student. What data might be involved?

The following information was NOT involved: social security numbers, credit card, bank account information, financial account information, email address caregivers, usernames, passwords, nor photos.

The type of information that potentially was exposed included: guardian name, phone number, and email address. Student name, id, address and date-of-birth. Student safety alerts used for quick reference guides for staff such as allergy information.

- The following information was NOT involved: social security numbers, financial data, date of birth, passwords, photos, nor emergency contact information.
- The type of information that potentially is exposed included: name, id, address, phone number and work email addresses.
