Elementary Report Cards

Each school year our elementary faculty and staff spend a great deal of time assessing your child’s learning and reporting that information to you through report cards, progress reports, and teacher conferences. These various reporting mechanisms provide great opportunities for families to understand how children are progressing in their development and what families can do to support children beyond the school day.

Dedham Public Schools introduced a new and improved Elementary report card in 2025-2026.   This update represents a full year of collaboration among teachers, administrators, and families — all aimed at making student progress easier to understand and more closely aligned with our learning goals.

The process of revising the Elementary report card began in the fall of 2025. As part of this process,  families and faculty were invited to share feedback and insights through surveys and in-person opportunities such as District Curriculum Night. Their input was invaluable in shaping a system that reflects what our community values most about learning in Dedham. To better align with our educational goals and ensure that report cards clearly reflect student learning, a new standards-based elementary report card was developed.  One that embodies a shared vision: to create a comprehensive and transparent assessment system that accurately reflects student progress toward grade-level standards in all content areas.

The new report card focuses on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and classroom instruction, provides consistent and objective criteria for measuring achievement, and strengthens communication between teachers, families, and administrators. Most importantly, it highlights student growth by providing clear and specific feedback to guide learning and celebrate individual accomplishments.

Understanding the Report Card

These grade-level guides helps families understand how student learning and progress are measured in Dedham’s new elementary report card, as well as how to talk to students about what they are learning in school each term.

As these are standards-based report cards, families should expect to see their students move through the range of Proficiency Levels. Families will also see that some standards are not assessed during all terms, which is due to how grade-levels work their way through curriculum.

As always, reach out to your student’s teacher with questions.
