District Curriculum Advisory

The academic curriculum is at the very center of the work that educators conduct with children across the days, weeks and years of every student's educational experience in Dedham.

As such, it is of the utmost importance that all members of the community be aware not only of the curriculum as it is enacted in classrooms across the district but also aware of how it is developed, implemented and adjusted over time to accommodate the needs of children as well as shifts in state-mandated curriculum. To that end, the District Curriculum Advisory (DCA) serves as a representative group of faculty, parents/caregivers, and interested community members.

Broadly speaking, the DCA acts as a formal interface between the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and the community at large. Members of the DCA gather information, questions and/or concerns from various stakeholder groups, share that information with the DCA, bring information back to those stakeholder groups and offer counsel to the Assistant Superintendent on issues relating to PK-12 curriculum.

Advisory Goals

  • Gather information from the community at large to share with the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment to inform curriculum growth and development over time.
  • Gather information from the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to share with the community at large to ensure that stakeholders are aware of and informed about the ongoing growth and development of PK-12 curriculum.

Member Roles

As a stakeholder group composed of parents representing students and families from all schools and grade levels across the district. Members of the DCA will...

  • Serve as liaisons between the community and the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
  • Communicate with the community to understand and convey questions, concerns, or suggestions to the DCA.
  • Participate in monthly DCA meetings to share information and discuss relevant issues relating to DPS curriculum.
  • Support productive dialogue with the community about relevant curriculum issues.
