Library Spotlight: Hour of Code

All elementary students are celebrating Hour of Code this winter. Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science. Computer science and coding helps students develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking, logic and creativity.

By starting at an early age, students are better prepared for the future and for success in any 21st-century career.  When students practice coding, they are learning and practicing computational thinking strategies like sequencing, pattern recognition, and decomposition, skills that are important for computer science as well as many other parts of life.

Younger elementary students are learning and practicing coding skills using apps like Kodable, Lightbot, and Scratch Jr and some simple robots.

Older elementary students are learning and practicing coding skills using code.org and some robots. These opportunities allow students to engage with technology and create and solve coding challenges, while inspiring them to discover new ways of thinking.

Thanks to our Library Media Specialists for bringing this great progarm to our students during library time.
