Elementary News: LEXIA

Dear Families of Students in Grades K-5:

We hope this email finds you well. We are writing today to provide you with information about Lexia CORE5, a literacy focused tool, that we will be adding to the weekly learning plans starting the week of April 13th in grades K-3 and the week of April 20th in grades 4 and 5. This is a tool that many of our elementary teachers already use in the classroom. As such, your family may already be familiar with and use this tool. If this is new to you we have prepared resources that you can use to get started.

Lexia CORE5 focuses on fundamental literacy skills and allows children to:

  • work at their individual instructional level
  • work independently with minimal adult supervision
  • engage in reading activities that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for your child
  • meet some of the requirements as laid out by the Department of Elementary Education in meeting the needs of ALL students, dependent upon their current level of academic progress.

We ask that children in Kindergarten through Grade 3 use Lexia for 20-60 minutes per week in order to develop and sharpen important literacy skills. Specific expectations for each grade level will be articulated in the grade level learning plans you have been accessing to date.

Because it is the district's desire for all students to access Lexia on a consistent basis as part of remote learning, please inform your child's principal if you are in need of an electronic device and/or internet in order to effectively participate in using this resource.

We hope that the addition of Lexia to your child's daily schedule will be an easy supplemental choice from our wide variety of robust academic offerings that currently exist on our District Home Learning Page.  In the coming days, you should expect to receive a follow up communication from your child’s teacher about how to log on to Lexia. Families can also visit the District Digital Tools for Learning page for additional information about this resource.

In the event that you have trouble signing on to Lexia, or if you have any other difficulties, reach out to your child’s teacher for support.  They have office hours each day and will get back to you within 24 hours.

Sincerely,

The Elementary Leadership Team
