Hi Folks,

I hope you have all been enjoying a fun and restful summer break.  As we pass the midway point of our summer vacation, with less than four weeks before school starts back up,  we wanted to share some important updates so you can begin planning ahead for the start of the new school year.   More information will come out in a few weeks with detailed Back to School information.

Fall Mask Requirements

Information and guidance regarding mask requirements for students – both vaccinated and unvaccinated – continue to change and evolve.   Last Friday the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the MA Department of Public Health distributed DESE/DPH COVID-19 Guidance for Districts and Schools for Fall 2021.  These recommendations provide a starting point for discussions.  Dedham Public Schools will be working closely with our local Board of Health over the coming weeks to determine the safest options for our staff and students.  We will provide more detailed guidance as the start of school gets closer.   If your student is eligible for a vaccine, we highly encourage you to get them vaccinated as soon as possible. Vaccinations for anyone age 12 and older are readily available.  Please use the MA DPH Vaccination Locator website for more information.

YMCA Before/After School Program Information

The YMCA will be providing before and after school programming for students ages 5-13 again this year.   These programs will return to pre-COVID locations at each of our elementary schools.  Registration Forms and Program Information are now available for all families.  Completed registration forms should be sent to Robert Zullo at

Books & Bites

Last week our school librarians helped launch a new program designed to give all DPS students a free reading book during the weekly Wednesday free meal pick up (10:00am - 12:30pm at Avery Elementary School).   If you haven’t grabbed a free book, be sure to take advantage of this program which runs until Wednesday, August 18th.

Fall School Supplies

We’ve heard from our principals that many of our families have been asking for Fall school supply lists, especially as news continues to note anticipated supply delays. Dedham Schools has made it a priority over the last few years to ensure that all students, especially at the Elementary level, are not faced with a burden to provide basic school supplies.   All Elementary student supplies needed for the year will be provided by the school, no shopping lists required!    At the Middle School level, each grade has a small list of recommended items.  Please reach out to the DMS main office if items on the supply list pose a difficulty or hardship and we’d be happy to help.

Important August Dates to Note:

The deadline for submitting your bus application has been extended to August 9th. Bus forms, exemption details and links for online payment and more can be found at or using the bus icon found on all school websites. Bus Routes will be posted online the week prior to the first day of school.
