Dedham School Building Rehabilitation Committee and School Committee to Host Joint Meeting To Review Latest Progress on New Oakdale Elementary Building Project

DEDHAM, MA -September 15, 2022 - On Wednesday, September 28, 2022 the Dedham School Building Rehabilitation Committee (SBRC) and the Dedham School Committee will come together for a joint meeting on the Oakdale Elementary Building Project.  The Oakdale project, which was prioritized through a Master Plan process started in 2018, will explore ways in which the Town can capitalize on State funding support to improve and update our Elementary school facilities. The September 28th meeting will include a community presentation to review the scope of the project to date and provide updated timelines and next steps in the process.  

Project History To Date:

• In April, 2021 the Massachusetts School Building Authority officially invited the Oakdale Elementary School into the MSBA’s Eligibility Period.  

• At the Fall Town meeting on Monday, November 15, 2021, the expenditure of up to $1 million to proceed with a feasibility study that will examine options for addressing Oakdale Elementary school deficiencies was unanimously authorized.   

• In July 2022, Compass Project Management was officially confirmed as the Owner’s Project Manager on record for the project. 

Next Steps:
Next steps in the project timeline include designer selection this Fall, followed by the development of a Preliminary Design Plan this winter.  These steps are part of the feasibility study process required by the MSBA during the Eligibility Period. It will allow the community, with expert guidance and insight, to explore all potential construction opportunities, from a reconstruction of the Oakdale School alone to a broader plan with multi-site construction and a different approach to elementary school configuration.
