Playing The Flute
Flute is the smallest and highest-sounding instrument in the band.
PROS – Small, easy to carry when in case. Soft so appropriate to practice in tight quarters.
CONS – This is the perhaps the most difficult instrument to start on in beginning band. Occasionally students struggle to play flute well due to facial characteristics (lip size, etc.). Difficult to hold, especially with small hands. Teachers will assist students to see if any of these may be a factor.
Many students choose the flute - offering opportunities to play in a flute section with classmates as they go through the band program.
