Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer
Dr. O. (as we refer to her) joined the Dedham Public Schools in October 2020 as the inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. The newly established position culminates over four years of planning by the Dedham School Committee and the DPS Leadership team to prioritize the need for enhanced culturally responsive practices and greater alignment of curriculum to reflect Dedham’s diverse student population.
Dr. O. has been in education for over twenty years. Dr. O. holds a Doctorate of Education in Language, Literacy, and Cultural Studies and a Masters of Education from Boston University.
Dr. O., received the Lucy Wheelock Award in 2020 from Boston University. This award honors an alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated exemplary service to their profession and community. It recognizes alumni who have achieved distinction through exemplary leadership by fostering excellence in their field, advocating for social justice, stimulating systemic change, and promoting diversity.
Dr. O. is a member of the third cohort of Influence 100, launched by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of superintendents in Massachusetts, create more culturally responsive districts and leaders across the state, and promote better outcomes for students.
