ESSR III: Implementation Plan

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, Public Law 117-2, was enacted on March 11, 2021. The ARP Act provides additional funding for school districts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Education portion of ARP is known as the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III or ARP ESSER) Fund. The purpose of the ESSER III fund is to support the safe reopening and sustaining safe operations of schools while meeting students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dedham Public Schools has access to $2, 339,292 through this relief fund to be used to address issues relating to learning loss during the pandemic and maintaining safe and healthy school environments. The District’s plan for utilizing these funds follows.

  1. Extended Learning Time
    1. Provide comprehensive and strategic extended school day (ESD) and extended school year (ESY) programming to address learning loss during the pandemic and accelerate learning for all students.
    2. Provide coordination and leadership for all ESD/ESY programs districtwide to ensure that programs are designed and aligned to best meet the needs of students and families.
  2. Facilities Improvements
    1. Evaluate and, if necessary, replace air handlers/rooftop units to ensure proper ventilation and indoor air quality are maintained throughout the district.
