FALL PLAN UPDATE: New Website & Superintendent Virtual Q&A
The district has created a dedicated website with many DESE guidance documents. This site includes important topics and an ongoing “Frequently Asked Questions” section regarding the evolving reopening plan.
In addition, on Thursday, July 30 Superintendent Welch will be hosting two question and answer sessions via Zoom webinar at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. These are opportunities for students, parents, and faculty/staff to submit questions and get live answers from me. These webinars will be recorded and posted on our website for those unable to participate live. An invitation with a Zoom link will be sent to all families, faculty, staff, and secondary students on Wednesday, 7-29. Please watch your email for this info and join me in this discussion!
The full DPS Preliminary Reopening Plan document is available on this dedicated district reopening website.
Also on Monday, July 27th, DESE Commissioner Jeff Riley announced in a memo to Superintendents that the 2020-21 school year for students will be reduced from 180 to 170 school days. These 10 days will now be used for teacher training to prepare to best serve students’ needs for the unique reopening requirements this year will require. The new information will change our district calendar for students, and will cause us to further refine our developing plans for the fall.
Detailed final reopening plans for all districts are due to DESE on Monday, August 10. The Dedham School Committee will be considering all input and voting on the final district plan at their Wednesday, August 5 meeting. There have been MANY recent changes and additions to official DESE guidance. The Dedham School Committee is closely following this developing situation, and will be supporting the best plan for our students that can be safely put into place.
