Dedham Advances Search for Next Superintendent with 5 Finalist Candidates

Dedham Public Schools and the Dedham School Committee are pleased to report that five candidates have been selected as part of the ongoing search for a new Superintendent of Schools in Dedham. Current Superintendent Michael Welch will retire at the end of 2022 and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Assessment, Dr. Ian Kelly will be acting as Interim Superintendent through June 2023.

In early December, an appointed Screening Committee, made up of school parents, administrators, educators and community members, reviewed an impressive pool of candidates’ applications. They met and reviewed applications and subsequently selected candidates to meet with the Screening Committee for a preliminary interview. During the December 17, 2022 meeting, after thorough discussion and consideration, the Screening Committee voted to recommend five candidates for further consideration by the Dedham School Committee.

The five candidates, listed in alphabetical order, are:

Dr. Marlene DiLeo, currently Superintendent of Ware Public Schools

Dr. Renee McCall, currently Assistant Superintendent, Newton Public Schools

Ms. Nan Murphy, currently Assistant Superintendent, Marblehead Public Schools

Dr. Armand Pires, currently Superintendent Medway Public Schools

Dr. June Saba-Maguire, currently Assistant Superintendent, Brockton Public Schools

In early January, the five finalist candidates will be visiting Dedham for in-person tours and meetings, including evening, in-person public interviews with School Committee members. Community members are invited to provide feedback on each candidate through online forms through January 16, 2023. Candidate resumes and links to the feedback forms are available on the School Committee Superintendent Search page at

“On behalf of the School Committee and the Town of Dedham, I would like to thank the members of the Screening Committee for the many hours they devoted to reviewing applications, interviewing candidates and deliberating during the preliminary selection process,”  noted Mayanne Briggs, Dedham School Committee member and Chair of the Superintendent Search subcommittee.  “The conversations were lively, insightful and courteous. It was a pleasure to work with this group of truly dedicated people.”
