Principal Hillman Student Email Update: April 21st

Hello DMS Students,

I’m not sure if you’ve heard the news but today the Governor made the decision to keep schools closed through the end of the school year.  While many other states had decided this already, it still is so shocking that we won’t be back together this school year!  All of you are the best part of DMS and your teachers and I miss you so much!

There’s still lots to figure out for the rest of the year (locker clean out!) but for now, please focus on getting your work done and taking care of yourself and your family.

Here are some updates:

  • Academics: Your teachers have shared that you are getting your work done!  Great job and keep that up - remember that these assignments count for grades.  You also still have time to work on Trimester 2 work.  If you are failing a class, I will be calling your families to let them know!!  Be sure to look up your daily work on this site not on google classroom!

  • Sources of Strength: Thanks to our awesome team, we will have a different theme each week.  This week: Positive Friends.  Here is the link to the slideshow with more information and daily activities.  Do you remember our Positive Friend-zy photo booth at school?  Check out today’s slide for a message from the Sources Advisors and a video of your pictures!

  • Self Care Tips: Check out the creative video from our guidance team on ways to take care of ourselves during the quarantine.  Their paper airplane skills are on point!

  • Poetry Month: We may not be in school but our Literary Magazine continues.  :)  April is poetry month!  Submit your poetry to this season's Exciting Writing online version.  Use the classroom code w3jnas7 to join the Exciting Writing Google Classroom and submit to the POETRY 2020 assignment by April 25th.  Any questions?  Ask Ms. Hegarty:  We can't wait to read your work!

  • Day of Silence: Each year, hundreds of DMS students choose to participate in the national Day of Silence in support of the LGBTQ community.  Though we are home, on Friday, you can participate through various activities such as those listed on the GLSEN website.

Please stay healthy and reach out anytime with questions or concerns.  Thank you for all you are already doing to keep up with your work.  I am proud of you!

Now go wash your hands,

Ms. Hillman
