Included in this year‘s special virtual community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are personal statements from Dedham students. If you were unable to watch the Celebration on Monday, January 18th, you can watch them here as they share their experiences and their dreams for a future that honors Dr. King‘s vision of inclusion and personal freedom.
In order to keep providing students with the opportunity to attend school in-person, it is critical that everyone continue to follow safe practices when it comes to COVID-19. These regulations were established in agreement with the Dedham Board of Health. They are now in effect for all faculty, staff and students of Dedham Public Schools for at least the next five weeks, including the February vacation break (February 13-21). Our schools are carefully reviewing every student’s health and safety attestation form. If a student has not completed this attestation, that student will be excluded from classrooms until we confirm compliance. We appreciate your careful review of this guidance. Thank you for your continued cooperation, transparency, honesty and communication.
Since the start of the Thanksgiving break, we have seen an uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in Dedham. We will always provide notification to the school community when a documented case that was present in our schools is recorded. What we have NOT seen is any evidence of transmission that traces back to our schools or classrooms. Read the full update from Superintendent Welch regarding school Covid-19 management and insight into adapting learning plans to help ensure continued student and staff safety.
Feeling stressed? Take a few minutes for yourself this winter. Visit Committee for Children’s YouTube channel every Monday through the end of January for a short video about mental health, presented by a licensed clinical psychologist. The weekly self-care videos will also include a daily practice grounded in research and SEL. These Winter Well-Being videos are created especially for parents. Share them with your students’ families or watch them yourself!
