Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

Our purpose is to implement tiered support systems that empower all students to excel and develop the skills and confidence needed to become future leaders. By providing targeted, rigorous, and equitable support, we aim to build a foundation for every student to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

What is MTSS?

  • MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) is a proactive, data-driven framework designed to identify and support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students.

  • It’s not just an initiative—it’s a comprehensive approach that ensures each student receives the appropriate level of support to succeed.

Why MTSS?

  • Equity in Education: MTSS ensures that every student, regardless of background or ability, has access to the resources they need to thrive.

  • Data-Driven Decisions: MTSS uses data to inform instruction and intervention, ensuring that support is targeted and effective.

How does MTSS work?

 

Tier 1: Universal Support

  • For All Students: High-quality, differentiated instruction is provided to all students in the general education classroom.

  • Example: A teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of their class, such as small group work, visual aids, and technology integration.

 

Tier 2: Targeted Support

  • For Some Students: Additional support is provided for students who need more help than Tier 1 can offer.

  • Example: A student who struggles with reading might receive small group instruction focused on specific skills, in addition to regular classroom activities.

 

Tier 3: Intensive Support

  • For a Few Students: Individualized, intensive interventions are provided for students who need more specialized support.

  • Example: A student with significant behavioral challenges might receive one-on-one counseling and a behavior intervention plan.
