While we are just a few days away from the last days of our school year, we are excited about the opportunity to begin work on the Solar Project that will put canopies over open parking areas at Dedham High School, Dedham Middle School and Avery Elementary this summer.
This solar project will not only create covered, shaded parking areas at the schools, but also help control future school department energy costs and ensure that DPS is in compliance with State mandates to increase reliance on sustainable energy sources.

Together, as ONE DEDHAM, we will work relentlessly to achieve our goals, ensuring that every student in Dedham Public Schools has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. Your continued support and collaboration are essential to realizing this vision.

Congratulations to the twenty-three graduates in the Dedham High Class of 2025 who have earned the Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas, six of those a Seal with Distinction. In 2020, Dedham Public Schools joined 150 districts around Massachusetts in awarding a State Seal of Biliteracy distinction on Dedham High School diplomas. The Seal is awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in two languages; English and one other language. Students are awarded the Seal of Biliteracy after completing a four-part exam to measure interpretive listening, interpretive reading, interpersonal speaking, and presentational writing.

Dedham Public Schools are pleased to share the news that we have extended an offer to Ms. Jennifer Dolan to join our team as the new Principal of Dedham Middle School. Ms. Dolan’s extensive experience in leading upper level schools, combined with her collaborative, passionate personality stood out as qualities that make her an ideal choice to assume the leadership role at our Middle School. She will officially take on the role beginning on July 1, 2025, but will be working with Principal Hillman, Assistant Principal Benzie and the team at DMS leading up to that time to ensure that we have a smooth transition.

The Dedham Public Schools remain firmly committed to preserving the essential programs and services that support student learning, development, and well-being. However, we are facing considerable fiscal challenges that require difficult decisions and shared understanding across our school community. Through the budget development process, the Budget Subcommittee approved an increase of 5.67%, which necessitates a reduction of approximately $1.2 million from the level service budget. More recently, the Town’s Finance and Warrant Committee recommended a 4.0% budget increase for the schools. Should this recommendation be adopted by Town Meeting, the District would need to make an additional $1 million in cuts.
This spring students will take the MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System). MCAS provides us with a snapshot in time of where our students are performing academically. It is important to help make sure that your student is well-rested and present for these days, please check dates to avoid conflicts with any appointments scheduled.
Citizen Science is scientific research conducted by members of the general public. It involves volunteers or non-professional scientists – like our school kids – to collect and analyze data in collaboration with real scientists and researchers.
We are excited to announce that DPS will be holding a Citizen Science Expo at Avery Elementary on April 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30. The Expo is open to all Dedham students in grades 3, 4 & 5.
