In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month - September 15th - October 15th - we've compiled some amazing resources to help our students and families learn more about the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The Dedham School Building Rehabilitation Committee (SBRC) held an in person and virtual public meeting on Monday, September 9th to discuss ongoing progress and next steps related to the proposed Oakdale Elementary Building project. The meeting focused on the submission of the schematic design to the MSBA and future capital needs of several Dedham elementary schools.
Through a grant from Beth Israel Hospital, DPS has joined forces with Boston College to bring the CityConnects integrated support model to the ECEC and our four elementary schools.
Leaders from Dedham Public Schools attended a two-day summit led by the One8 Foundation to plan for encouraging the concept of applied learning to engage students in the OpenSciEd curriculum currently being used at Dedham Middle School.
Dedham Middle School English Language Arts teachers are also getting ready to implement Amplify ELA - a new English Language Arts curriculum that fully aligns with our new elementary literacy curriculum. Amplify ELA is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum designed for middle school students, typically grades 6-8. It focuses on developing students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through a combination of interactive digital resources, engaging texts, and hands-on activities.
This year, Dedham Public Schools will begin the important work of developing a 5 year strategic plan that will review, inform and articulate the mission, vision and priority goals for the future of the district. As part of this important work, we are also going to develop a formalized “Portrait of a DPS Graduate” to define our collective vision for the learning experience of every student in our classrooms.
Dedham Public Schools will continue to receive FREE school meals in School Year 2024-2025, and in all future years. This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students. Your student can receive 1 FREE complete breakfast and 1 FREE complete lunch each school day.
Dedham has a long and storied history of band excellence and we are excited to be able to welcome our students to join in that tradition early in their school career. The Dedham Public Schools offer all of our 4th and 5th graders the chance to learn to play an instrument during the school day.
Learning instruments is a natural outgrowth of a solid music education. Students will learn the basics of performing music on their chosen instrument. Signups will be open from September 13 through September 16.
The 2024 - 2025 Integrated Preschool program at the Dedham Curran Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) as will be hosting a Friendship Screening Day on Friday, September 6, 2024 to meet with preschool aged students interested in joining the preschool program at the ECEC. Any child residing in Dedham, who will be at least 3.5 years old as of September 1, 2024, is eligible to be considered for these limited additional openings in the 3-day preschool classroom for the 2024-2025 school year beginning this Fall. RSVP required.

What's Happening In Our Schools
In Social Science and World Geography, DMS 7th graders delved into the enduring influences of Central and South Asia on our modern world. To further explore the concept of community, students shared personal artifacts and created personalized nameplates for their classmates.
Calling all 1st and 2nd graders! Get ready for an unforgettable adventure on the Avery Elementary stage with **Kitty Cat Capers**, our annual musical filled with singing, dancing, and acting. Your child will create their own costume pieces, work with volunteers, and shine in two family-friendly performances on **Friday, November 15th**.
Registration opens on Tuesday, September 24th at 9am.
We are excited to hold our first Book Fair of the year this week! The Book Fairs are run by our school librarian and parent volunteers. Book Fairs help earn extra money for books and other materials in our school. Hundreds, if not thousands of books have been added to our school libraries with proceeds from these fairs.
Please join the DHS Counseling Team and admissions representatives from Providence College and Westfield State University to learn about post-secondary options and the college search and application process. This is a “lunch and learn” virtual workshop and will be recorded.
On Thursday September 19, 2024 International Peace Day, Riverdale School community will celebrate Pinwheels for Peace. A community art project to promote and celebrate peace. Mrs. O'Leary has started this beautiful tradition at Riverdale. Please join us at arrival to view the students pinwheels. The brief celebration will take place outside on the basketball court at 8:45 AM.
