Bus to School

Buses are driven by competent drivers, have the right of way, and are properly insured. To exercise the option of bus transportation, all eligible students must pay a users fee determined by the Dedham School Committee.
- Students in Grades 1-6 who live more than 2 miles away from the school will have bus fees waived.
- Students who are on Free/Reduced Lunch plans are eligible to have bus fees waived. Forms are still required to be submitted.
Bus registration and conduct forms must be completed and returned to Dedham Public Schools.
Please note, registration and conduct forms signed and submitted prior to August 15st will enjoy a small savings!
All Bus students in Grades 1‐12 must register regardless of bus fee exempt status.
Parents with questions on eligibility for bus transportation should contact the central office at 781-310- 1000.
Bus Routes will be posted online the week prior to the first day of school.

Bus Conduct & Disciplinary Action
In case of any misconduct on a bus, the incident will be reported by the bus driver on the proper form to the school principal or assistant principal. He/She will report the incident in writing to the parent concerned, with a copy to the transportation office.
Repetition of misconduct by the same student, the principal or assistant principal will suspend the student's transportation privileges with written notice to the parent. Bus privileges may be denied permanently if a third incident occurs, following a conference with the superintendent or designee. The responsibility for transportation will rest with the parent, if the privilege is denied. Additionally, no refunds will be provided in such instances.

· Bus driver will report the incident to the school principal or asst principal.
· The school will reach out to parents; provide a written summary of the incident
· A copy of the incident report will be filed with the transportation office
· Written notice of repeated misconduct shared with parents.
· Suspension of student’s transportation priviledges, the timing to be determined by the principal.
· Written notice to parents
· Conference with Superintendent or designee;
· Bus priviledges may be denied for remainder of the year.
· Transportation becomes responsibity of the parents.
· No refunds for bus fees will be issued.

Student Conduct on Buses
While on school buses it is expected that students will…
- remain in seats.
- use appropriate language
- not whistle or shout.
- not eat.
- not use drugs or alcohol.
- not harass others.
- not push or wrestle.
- not annoy other passengers.
- not disturb others belongings.
- not talk to the driver.
- not throw objects in the bus.
- not throw objects out the window.
- not open windows.
- close windows.
- not climb over seats.
- not lean out windows.
- not litter on the bus.
- keep all books and materials on laps.
- keep arms, hands, and heads inside.
- obey driver’s directions quickly and courteously.
- maintain order at the bus stop.

Video Surveillance on Bus
All school buses are equipped with cameras that will record audio and video. There should be no expectation of privacy on school buses. All audio and video recordings can and will be used as part of any disciplinary proceedings.

School Bus Stops
Riders must be on time. Bus drivers will not wait.
Riders will enter or leave the bus at regular stops only.
Orderly behavior and respect for private property will be required.

Can students go to other bus stops (friends house, or must they only use assigned spots?)

Bus Passes
A student must have a pass to board the bus in the morning and afternoon. Lost passes will be replaced at a cost of $5.00. Temporary bus passes will be issued before the late bell in the morning and during lunchtime on the day any students do not have their pass. Replacement passes will not be issued at any other time. Only students who have bus passes are allowed on their assigned bus; guests are not allowed.
