TEST and stay

About Test & Stay

  • The Test & Stay program is a testing initiative intended to help keep students in the Classroom in cases where they have been identified as Close Contact of someone with confirmed COVID-19 and the exposure occurred in school.

The program uses DAILY rapid test results to confirm that the student has not contracted COVID, and can therefore safely continue to participate in classroom learning, following all other safety protocols.

The Test & Stay program is offered as an alternative to the required 7-day Quarantine mandated for identified Close Contacts.

To Participate in Test & Stay

    • Student must not have or develop any COVID symptoms
    • Student must be able to wear a mask for the whole school day – including outside during recess.
      • Students in T&S will continue to require 3ft of social distance during mask breaks and lunch.
    • Student is required to quarantine at home for non-school extracurricular activities during the Test & Stay timeframe (7 days)
    • Student must be a school-based close contact only.
      • Students identified as a close contact status due to a household or other non-school contact are not eligible.
    • Students must have signed consent to participate.
    • Students will be required to report for testing at an assigned time each morning.   Transportation may be required.

How Test & Stay Works

  • Students report for testing DAILY in the morning, most often before school begins.

Students are swabbed with a shallow nasal swab (BinaxNOW rapid test) by a trained member of our DPS team.

    … Test Results are Processed… ~ 15 minutes

If the student tests NEGATIVE, they are directed to proceed to class.

If the student tests POSITIVE, they will not be allowed into the school. Parents will be notified immediately, standard COVID quarantine protocols and response would begin.

    • Students tested at the Drive Thru site are instructed to return home or head to school – depending on timing. They will be contacted as soon as possible once the results are ready. *Please note, due to volume, it may not be exactly 15min later.
    • Students participating in Test & Stay will be excused from a late arrival to class.

Drive Thru Testing Site

  • Capen School Building

    322 Sprague Street, Dedham

(This is the former ECEC school building.  Please follow map directions based on the Address, not the name, as some maps shifted the Capen School name to the new ECEC address)

For all ECEC, Avery, Riverdale, Oakdale, Greenlodge, DMS & DHS students who DO NOT take the bus.

All Test & Stay students will need to report to the Capen for drive-thru testing each morning.

Testing will be conducted from 6:45am – 9am

Testing time slots will be assigned by your school nurse. Timed slots are important to help manage # of students testing at one time.

Turn into the parking lot via the Sprague Street entrance, drive to the left of the building, and there will be a sign that says "Stop Here for COVID Testing.  "Signs will indicate where to “Stop Here for COVID Testing”

THIS IS A DRIVE THRU TESTING SITE.   Please follow the signs and stay in your car.  Our team will come out to you!

Students Who Ride The Bus

  • Students riding the bus will still be able to participate, per DESE guidance.

Oakdale, Greenlodge, Riverdale, ECEC and DMS students on the bus will be greeted by and shown to a designated testing location upon arrival at their school building.

If a bus student tests positive, their family will be immediately contacted and they will be quarantined until they can be picked-up.

If bus students test negative, they will be directed to proceed directly to class.
