- Meals will be available during the planned April vacation week (April 21 – April 24, 2020). Distribution sites will not be open on Monday, April 20th for Patriots Day, students will get that meal provided as part of the weekend meal pick up on Friday, April 17th.
HOURS: 9:00AM - 11:00AM Monday - Friday
Distribution sites are:
Avery Elementary School parking lot (336 High Street);
Veteran’s Road Dedham Housing Community Center (92 Veteran’s Road);
Riverdale Elementary School (143 Needham St)
Bags will be distributed in a drive-through format; Residents will remain in their vehicles.
Children must be present and on site to receive meals.
In order to maintain appropriate social distancing, meals should not be consumed on site.
Recipients DO NOT need to be free/reduced lunch qualified. All residents under 18 years of age are eligible.
One breakfast and one lunch per on-site eligible child per day.
Meals may NOT be delivered outside the distribution zone.
The meal distribution criteria cited above are required by the National School Lunch program in order to qualify for reimbursement from the federal government. These criteria require distribution areas to meet or exceed a 50%+ student free/reduced lunch eligibility threshold. Once this threshold is reached for a single school, all community residents may access free/reduced meals BUT ONLY AT THAT SITE or a site within the boundaries of the eligible school’s geographic district. The Avery Elementary School is the only school in Dedham that meets this criteria, therefore any distribution site must be within the Avery district.
The hard working crew of 23 food service workers, supported by over 45 Dedham teachers and staff volunteers, have provided over 9000 meals to Dedham students and on Thursday, April 9th, when they distribute another 2,800 meals, they will have served over 10,000 meals.
