MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 2023

  • This year’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life will take place in Dedham on Monday, January 16, 2023.  Hosted by the Dedham Human Rights Commission, the celebration will include student performances, readings, and artwork displays to honor the legacy and values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Students who choose to submit their original work will see their work displayed at the event on January 16th when the Dedham Community will gather to honor and celebrate Dr. King’s life.

    All students in grades K-12 in the Dedham Public Schools are eligible to participate.

Elementary Student Submissions

  • Dedham elementary students are invited to submit a piece of artwork that reflects upon the theme of being a positive agent of change within the community.

    We encourage students to view or read the book “It Starts With Me!” and reflect on its theme by creating an original piece of artwork that shows how one can take even small steps to build a positive community. 

    Requirements:

    • Participants must be enrolled at Avery, ECEC, Greenlodge, Oakdale, or Riverdale

    • Digital entries must be sent as a PDF file named as: Student First Name.Last Initial.School.Grade

    • All entries must be received by January 5th

    • Print entries accepted by leaving them in your school’s main office

    • Digital entries of artwork to Bridget O’Leary: boleary@dedham.k12.ma.us 

     

Grade 6 - 12 Student Submissions

  • DMS and DHS students are invited to submit an original piece that reflects upon the theme of being a positive agent of change within the community.

    We encourage students to showcase how they, or other community members, reflect the belief that even small steps matter when building a positive community. Submissions can be in the form of artwork, poems, personal stories - anything that students feel best represents the theme of being a positive agent of change and the legacy of Dr. King.

    Requirements:

    • Participants must be enrolled at DMS or DHS.
    • Digital entries must be sent as a PDF file named as: Student First Name.LastInitial.School.Grade
    • All entries must be received by January 5th
    • Print entries accepted by leaving them in your school’s main office
