Introduction
During the school year students often ask me for inspirational guidance that will help them create a successful piece of ceramic art. I try to steer them in the direction of what past and present artists have created. This webquest timeline that the students will create will give them a foundation of art history and how art was influenced by historical events and cultural differences.

Task
The students will be studying and evaluating work by ceramic artists from prehistoric to modern times. They will discover and analyze works of art to determine artist's name, nationality, materials and techniques used, and the date of when the art was created.

Process
The students will complete the following steps to successfully complete their timeline.
1. The first step will be to select 10 different works of ceramic art that interests them.
2. The artwork must be copied, with permission by the source, and used to create a visual online timeline.
3. In order to have a full understanding of each piece of art the following information must be collected.

4. Create a visual timeline that is pleasing to the eye. The students have a choice of using any media that they are interested and availible to them.

When the students have completed their project they will be able to recognize distinguishing characteristics and or movements that identifies a specific artwork as relating to a particular style or culture. They will also be able to recognize what historical events influenced artists. The following grading rubric will be used to grade the student's timeline.

Conclusion

After the students finish the timeline project, they will always be able to use the knowledge learned from this project. Either the students will be able use techniques learned from the art history studied or they will have the experience of finding art on the internet that may influence their own work. At the end of this project the students will choose a piece of art that they found to be their favorite. They will create their own version of this project demenstrating their knowledge of the medium.
