Introduction:

Let's go on a field trip in April!

Where do you think we should go?

Obviously..... Paris!!!  There are so-o-o many decisions.  How shall we get there?  Where shall we stay?  What will we do when we get there?  Where to eat? dance? visit?

Decisions!   Decisions!   Decisions!

The Task:

As teams, you are going to research all the elements of our trip, from the flight to the hotel to the restaurants to the tours.

Each team is made up of three members:

  • site coordinator,
  • social director, and
  • logistician.

You must . . .

  • decide on your role
  • research the information for your team position.
  • collaborate with the rest of the team.
  • make tour decisions.
  • design a brochure representing your findings
  • present your tour to the class.

We, as a class, will then decide which trip is the Tour de nos Rêves

The Process:

What you need to KNOW . . .

  1. Tour Role

You will be assigned to teams of three travel agents with specific roles and character names.

·        Site coordinator:

Lafayette

You will inform the group about the weather, the exchange rates, the time change, the restaurants, the necessary clothing, shopping, appropriate souvenirs and gifts, customs, holidays and celebrations that might be in progress.

·        Social director:

Monet

You are the social director of the trip.  You will organize the museum trips, the excursions to the historical sites, sports events, discos and nighttime events for the group.

·        Logistician:

St. Exupery

Your task is to find the appropriate flights, make the hotel reservations, get the metro maps, bus tours and train schedules and fares.

  1. Tour Members

Since this could be a trip for our class, you will design the trip for one adult couple and eight high school students who are unrelated to each other.

  1. Budget

You will be given a budget of $3,000 per person for the trip (this is all-inclusive: travel, meals, entrance fees, gifts, souvenirs, spending money, etc.)

  1. Timeframe

We will spend seven days and nights in France.  This does not include the two days of travel.

What you need to DO . . .

  1. Decide on your role.

Do you love to shop?

·        You are Lafayette!

Do art and history light up your life?

·        You are Monet!

Do you prefer maps, trains and numbers?

·        St. Exupery is the name for you!

  1. Perform the tasks for your role.

Investigate the on-line resources for your role:

·        Lafayette

·        Monet

·        St. Exupery

·        Also, check the general resources.

You will complete the appropriate worksheet, which you will bring back to your group.

·        Lafayette worksheet

·        Monet worksheet

·        St. Exupery worksheet

Within each category you should have a minimum of three options of various prices.

  1. Rejoin your group.

As a group, compare the options and prices for our week in France, keeping in mind the interests of the group as well as the budget.

Indicate your final choices on the individual worksheets.

  1. Advertise! Advertise! Advertise!

Design and make the brochure advertising your trip.

Use any format you like, for example, paper, poster board, or publishing software.

  1. Present your trip.

Each group will present its trip to the class.

What happens NOW? . . .

Decisions!   Decisions!   Decisions!

We will vote to determine which trip we want to take.

Come April 2002....where will we be?

Resources

After each agent has gathered and shared information with the team, you will understand the complexities of organizing and planning a trip abroad.  After completing all your hard work, you will be able to present a fun, economical, and educational trip to your group of high school students.  What else could you do to make your presentation more "kid appealing?"
