The PSAT (Preliminary SAT)
The PSAT is a test that covers the skills of critical reading, writing and math. Each of three sections is scored between 20-80, and a perfect score on the PSAT is 240. Nationwide, the average total PSAT score in each separate section is between 47-50 for juniors and 43-47 for sophomores. The PSAT lasts for two hours and ten minutes of testing time and up to forty-five additional minutes for paperwork, instructions and breaks. The PSAT is not required for admission to any college, but it can help prepare you to take the SAT. The PSAT is administered in October every year, and Dedham High School offers it to all sophomores and juniors, free of charge.
