The Dedham High School Alumni Association, formed in 2002, is pleased to announce the availability of 2 scholarships - one to a graduating high school senior and one to a citizen of the community.

The Association is able to fund these scholarships from proceeds from membership drives, t-shirt sales, and two consecutive, successful fundraisers held at Moseley's on the Charles, the much talked about Dedham High School 150th Birthday Celebration and Dedham Through the Decades.

A  $500 scholarship is to be awarded to the son, daughter, or grandchild of a current or deceased member of the Dedham High School Alumni Association.  Completed applications will be available soon and must be returned postmarked by January 1, 2005.

Co-recipients of the first Child of the DHS Alumni Scholarship were Christina Lazdowsky and Christopher Nemes.   Ms. Lazdowsky is the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Lazdowsky, both graduates of Dedham High, Class of 1969.  She is currently attending Norwich University majoring in Psychology.  Mr. Nemes, attending Scotland's University of St. Andrews, is majoring in Philosophy.  Andrew's mother, Janeen Teti Nemes, graduated from Dedham High School in 1973.

An additional a $1,000 scholarship, will be awarded to any adult learner who wishes to return to school and has graduated from Dedham High School.  Completed applications must be returned also with a postmark of no later than January 1, 2005.

Dianne O'Sullivan Zawacki , Class of 1972, was the inaugural recipient of the Continuing Education Scholarship.  Ms. Zawacki, employed by the Laconia, New Hampshire School District, is currently enrolled at Franklin Pierce College majoring in Business Management.

The DHS Alumni Association also awards an annual scholarship to a graduate of Dedham High School.  Melissa Johnson, Dedham High School Class of 2003, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to attend Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. This scholarship was most recently presented in June to Troy Korhonen who is a freshman at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
