Good Evening,
This is Andrew Morton, social studies department chair for Dedham High School. Your son was nominated to be a candidate for American Legion Boys State in June of this year. His name and contact information was forwarded to the American Legion so they could conduct interviews. Due to complications in this process, the American Legion will not be able to conduct interviews, and has asked that Dedham High make the selections. In order to accommodate this change, we have decided to create a panel of three Dedham High social studies teachers to conduct interviews tomorrow and Tuesday during x-block. At the conclusion of the interviews, the panel will select two student to go forward as the nominees. I am sorry that we were unable to execute our initial plan for nominations, but I feel that given the circumstances and short time line, that this is a fair solution. I will personally make arrangements for each student tomorrow to select an interview time for either tomorrow or Tuesday. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me. I can be reached at 781-326-4773 ext. 4205. Thank you and goodnight.

Good Evening,
This is Clare Sullivan, Principal of the Avery School. I am calling to welcome Avery students back from vacation. The teachers and custodians have worked extremely hard over the past weeks to prepare the new building for our students to start tomorrow. All parents should have received directions and maps about the traffic pattern for the new school. I just wanted to remind parents of a few items.

All walking students and parent drop off should enter the school grounds up Recreation Road. Students entering school grounds from High Street should walk up the sidewalk next to the field, cut through on the sidewalk behind the pool, and enter along the sidewalk next to the parking lot as we have practiced. Students walking from Mount Vernon Street should stay on the sidewalk closest to the High School until they reach the crossing guard by the school. They will be assisted in crossing safely at that point. Parents dropping students off in cars should enter from High Street up Recreation Road. They will be directed to turn left into the parking lot to drop of their students and then exit back out Recreation Road.

Because it will be raining tomorrow, all students will be directed quickly into the building through the front door. Students attending the complimentary breakfast program may arrive at 8:10. All other students should not arrive until the regular time- 8:30.

At the end of the school day, the pattern will be similar. Walking students will be escorted by their classroom teachers out the front door over to meet parents in the area behind the pool . Parents picking students up in cars should line up on Recreation Road. Students being picked up will wait with staff at the side of the building for their parents car to reach the pick up point. After students are loaded into cars safely, parents should exit back along Recreation Road.

We are extremely excited to start in the new building tomorrow. Please help your students to be safe by reviewing arrival and dismissal procedures with them.

Thank you.

Good evening. This is a message for parents and guardians of spring student-athletes who did not attend last night's information session. A new law requires that all parents, in addition to coaches, are now to be educated about concussions. Student-athletes will be ruled ineligible if their parents or guardians do not receive this training. The first part of the meeting last night, served as the education for those who were in attendance and signed in as they entered. If you did not sign in and attend last night, you must register, at no charge,, take the concussion training course along with the test, and print your certificate of completion and bring it to the DHS main office as soon as possible. The website iswww.nfhslearn.com.
Again, you must register, take the free/elective course Concussion in Sports: What you need to know, and return the certificate of completion to the high school as soon as possible.
I would like to apologize for the late notice of the meeting that was held last night. We will do a better of planning in the future. We appreciate your time as a family and we are planning on scheduling these events one year in advance for the 2012 - 2013 school year.

Good Evening. This is Ms. Gately, Principal of Dedham Middle School calling you to inform you of an issue that occurred at the middle school this afternoon. This message was orignially sent to homes at 2:30 pm today and I am resending it for those who may have missed it. At approximately 1:00 pm we discovered a letter with a suspicious powdery substance. We had been previously informed to look out for such a letter through an email received from one of the state education organizations. We informed the Dedham Police Department as well as the Dedham Fire Department. As classes had just started for block 6 we informed the teachers that we would hold the students in the classrooms. As to not to alarm the students we did not make an announcement over the loudspeaker. At no time were any students in any type of danger and the school was never on lockdown. The issue was contained to the main office only. From what we have learned other letters were sent to schools in Massachusetts and Maine. I must emphasize that your children were never in any danger and were kept in classrooms in order to allow all personnel to attend to the issue. Good evening Oakdale families, this is prinicpal Holli Armstrong calling. I hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable February Vacation. I am calling to let you know that we had our initial training for the BOKS program today at Oakdale. You recieved information regarding this exciting program that is geared to increasing student achievement and developing life long wellness and nutrition habits. So far have over 30 students who expressed an interest in participating in the program. In order to make this program successful I will need more parent volunteers. Currently, I have 3 parents who have offered to assist however, we will need more parental support. The program is very easy to follow and I will assist and train anyone interested in volunteering. If you feel that you can not commit to both mornings, perhaps find a friend and share the responsibility. Originally I had anticipated starting the program on March 6th. I have decided to delay the start of the program to March 14th and will have to limit the number of students who participate if I do not get more parent volunteers. If you are willing and able to help out, please call Oakdale School or email me at harmstrong@dedham.k12.ma.us I feel this is a very worthwhile program and am looking forward to getting it started. Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the rest of your week!

Upon grading the final assignment I found that many students did not follow directions and therefore received lower than average grades. Good Evening. This is Ms. Gately, Principal at Dedham Middle School with a message of concern to our grade 8 parents. In the weeks leading up to the December break, we have had increased instances of grafitti and vandalism in our grade 8 boys restrooms and grafitti in our grade 8 hallways and stairways. A year ago, we had similar issues and many of you expressed concern about how Dr. Fraczek and I handled the situation. Dr. Fraczek and I met with the grade 8 boys on December 21st to explain the costs associated with cleaning the grafitti as well as fixing the broken equipment as a result of the vandalism. We are therefore asking for your assistance in having conversations with your children about this issue. We have placed increased monitors in these areas but are also aware that we cannot always be in vacinity when some of it is occurring. We also welcome any suggestions as to how we may solve this issue. We strive to instill school pride in our students and work dilgently to maintain our multi-million dollar building - we appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Good Afternoon:

This is Doris Claypool, Principal of Riverdale School. With the completion of our first week in school, there are some safety matters to address with the Riverdale community. First, Please make sure you are using the circle drive to drop off and pick up your children. Second, if you park on Egan Way, your child must wait for the crossing guard to safely walk the children across the street. Also, there are parents parking in the lot where busses and vans come in daily. This is a major safety issue for the children in this school. Please do not park there between 8:15 and 8: 45 am. or 2:45 - 3: 30 pm. The busses are still adjusting to routes so please be patient with arrival and dismissal times.
