This is Don Langenhorst again - Technology Director for your Dedham Public Schools. Early last week a letter and form was sent home with your son or daughter regarding scheduled preferences for their Computer Business Applications course next year. The question is, "Would you prefer to take the course online or face-to-face?" I have not received that form back from your son or daughter. Returning this form tomorrow to the main office would be very helpful to us. The information and a copy of the form are available on Dedham High's website.

Hello. This is Don Langenhorst Technology Director for your Dedham Schools. I'm calling to remind your son or daughter to return a form indicating his or her and your preference of how they will take the Computer Business Applications course next year. The choice is in the traditional face-to-face mode or in an online mode. A letter was send home with your son or daughter with details about this. This letter and the form are also on the high school website if you need another copy. I am currently summarizing research conducted this year, looking at differences of the two modes for this class. No significant differences in grades have been shown. There are differences reported by students and teachers. Perhaps the biggest differences have been in gains related to organization and responsibility reported by online students. The choice is yours. I'd highly recommend the online class for next year's seniors. One of my daughter's will be a junior in high school next year and I would recommend the online mode of instruction for her as well. Either way you decide, we need the form returned as soon as possible. Returning the form will mean I won't have to send you another message and we can move forward with our scheduling process! http://www.dedham.k12.ma.us/dhs/online/.

Good Evening. This is Ms. Gately, Principal at Dedham Middle School with a couple of reminders for our students and parents. Recently, there has been an increased presence of energy drinks, such as Monster Energy Drinks on the campus of the middle school. We have noticed increased behavior issues with those students consuming these beverages. Both Dr. Fraczek and I are asking that students do not bring these drinks to school and if they are brought they will be confiscated. Also, we have been informed by our elementary principals that there have been many middle school students going to Avery, Riverdale, Oakdale and Greenlodge immediately after dismissal at the middle school and before the elementary schools have been dismissed. If a middle school student needs to be present to pick up a sibling or relative, we'd appreciate you informing the respective elementary school. Thank you very much for your assistance and feel free to contact me or Dr. Fraczek with any questions.

The report is about an attempted robbery of a male high school student in Brookdale Cemetary by an unknown male. The police are investigating this incident however in the interest of caution we would advise our students to avoid walking through Brookdale Cemetary during the period of the police investigation. Please discuss this request with your student. We appreciate your cooperation.

Good Evening. This is Ms. Gately Principal of Dedham Middle School calling our grade 7 parents about a couple of issues that have been brought our attention. Nurse Kelly has reported an increased amount of grade 7 boys visiting her office after wearing away at skin on their wrists and hands using a pencil eraser. This does constitute a health concern as infection can set in when left untreated. We would appreciate it if parents could ask their students about this. Additionally we have been made aware of students frequenting area businesses on Route 1 in the afternoon following dismissal from the middle school in small groups and students are crossing back and forth this very busy roadway. We are, above all else, most concerned about the safety of these students. If you have any questions about these or other issues, feel free to contact me or Dr. Fraczek at the middle school.
